XCMG attaches great importance to design innovation. In 2009, with industrial design center of Jiangsu XCMG Engineering Machinery Research Institute Co. LTD as the main part and industrial design institute of other secondary company as supplementary part, XCMG Industrial Design Center was jointly established. The center carries out industrial design research in the whole product life cycle and all the design processes, with the innovation design which integrates product function, structure, shape, craft, intelligentize and informationization as the main part, with the promotion of enterprise brand image and the product quality as the goal, and with providing advanced integrated design services for the manufacturing industry as the direction.

In addition, in terms of industry-University-institute cooperation, it actively promotes the exchanges, contacts and cooperation between universities and enterprises, and forms a long-term and stable strategic cooperative relationship through design cooperation, academic communication and technical research, so as to comprehensively promote the improvement of teaching, scientific research and design level. XCMG Industrial Design Center was awarded the title of "National Industrial Design Center" by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2015, and has passed the review for two consecutive times.

In 2016, Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Economy and Information Technology and XCMG Industrial Design Center jointly built the " Engineering Machinery Industrial Design Industry Service Platform in Jiangsu Province ". The platform is based on XCMG Industrial Design Center’s working foundation, bringing together diverse resources including the government's policy support, enterprise advanced R&D resources, supporting resources of upstream and downstream industrial chain, good cooperation relationship between scientific research institutes, the industry's top technical experts and Industry Association, etc. so as to provide product planning and design consulting, ergonomic optimization and verification, digital design and model production, professional inspection and testing services for main engine manufacturing enterprises of construction machinery industry, supporting enterprises in upstream and downstream industrial chain, and other related industries. The platform drives the collaborative development and innovation of the whole industrial chain through XCMG's leading enterprise status, it establishes the collaborative innovation mechanism and resource sharing service platform, improves the overall design innovation ability of the whole industry, and also enhances the core competitiveness of the enterprise.

XCMG is establishing an industrial design research institute in the field of construction machinery with independent legal qualification on the basis of the national industrial design center and the engineering machinery industrial design industry service platform of Jiangsu Province, and it was approved as " Industrial Design Research Institute Cultivation Site of Jiangsu Province" in 2019. Industrial design research institute in the field of construction machinery is combining with the characteristics of industry development, with design innovation leading technology innovation as the mission, with public service in industrial design field as the core function, with key generic technology in industrial design as the research focus, it will effectively integrate all kinds of design resources which are international and domestic, online and offline, and will focus on basic research, product design and strategy, achievement transformation, consulting services, talent training, international cooperation and other work. The institute will build a new business mode of industry-university-institute which is efficiently collaborated by construction machinery related manufacturing enterprises, design institutions, scientific research institutes, independent designers, etc. It will build an open and shared platform for industrial design innovation and research and development, a collaborative and efficient platform for achievement transformation, a talent training platform which is linked with the industry, universities and research institutes, and also a public service platform which supports the innovative development of the manufacturing industry.
